Asagaya Tanabata Festival


Tanabata is a Japanese festival (something about the stars and the milky way and the 7th or something to do with 7s -- you can read about it on wikipedia) where streamers and decorations line the shopping streets. and Asagaya station has some of the vibrant Tanabata decorations in the city.

Ah yes, the lucky box: one of the shadiest "games" ever. For 300 yen, you pick a wrapped box which could contain anything from a Nintendo DS to a bunch of tampons. i think you have better odds at Vegas.

the cucumbers and tomatoes are chilled super cold and taste marvelous! you can put salt or miso or a tasty umeboshi sauce on it. yum! and pretty healthy!
